9/4 On my own

Well I lost my favorite scarf yesterday.  It stayed pretty warm today so I didnt miss it too much.

Made him soft scrambled eggs before I left, and got there early at 10am with that and the rest of the green shake.

He has a new roommate that grunts like a troll all the time.  I'm talking to him loudly because that's what I do when he doesn't have hearing aids in and the troll says QUIT YELLING!  Amazingly Richard actually DOES hear me when I talk in a normal tone so...there you go.  I guess the tone of my voice is in his green zone.

He was tired.  I was bombarding him with questions and he's like jesus !  I just woke up!

No therapists on Sunday, so its sleep all day.  He drank the shake had one bite of eggs.  I brought my leftover sag paneer (indian spinach with farmers cheese)  he made me leave both.

A mass of people came in to discuss his recent fall with him.  He explained and they said please use the call button if you need help.  He said he uses it and no one comes.  His CNA he likes very much, and says he will always come to help, but the nurses never respond.  the men said that was not acceptable and tried to arrange his call button more conveniently hooked to his robe, but they left and he put it back out of the way.  Today he told them he thought the therapists were calling him thats why he got up...who knows.

He tried to get me to give his CNA a monetary tip, which he refused ethically.

His cell phone charger is missing...again.

He asked me if I had two dogs with me.  Bic and Buck.  I said no just Buck.  He asked who is Bic?  I said Bic doesn't exist....he said...interesting... :)

We realized that they are giving him one of his parkinsons meds that is time released crushed up and it was totally messing with him.  He mentioned it yesterday and the nurse said there was one you could crush (100mg) and another that is time released (200mg).  I verified his dosing today and indeed they have been crushing the 200mg.  While the nurse we spoke with about it yesterday was standing right there she hadn't done a thing about it.  He said he can feel it hit him like a freight train and it messes with his head.  Long talk with nursing who says she'll have to check with the speech pathologist if he can take a pill....WHAT?!  He CAN take a pill.  He CAN eat real food.  He CAN drink other things than thickened water.  The whole speech pathologist thing is pissing me off. His stomach is completely shrunk and his urine is burnt umber dark.  I mentioned it to him and he said I know it's because all they'll give me is this nasty stuff.  I need to find some sort of shaved ice thing, but hoping Monday brings the speech therapist back and his case worker.  I'm hating the weekend without either.

I couldn't tell from the nurses response if she GOT it or not.  Its either you figure out the timing for a 100mg crushed or you give him the 200mg tab...but when I returned later to watch 3pm meds, she did indeed give him the tab and he was grateful.

He was much more alive an animated later in the day.  I asked if he ate and he said yes he had some of my stuff.  it didn't look touched much.  I asked what it was that I could bring him to make sure he actually ATE something.  If I brought him dim sum every single day would he eat it?  And not just two pieces..... he said yes and requested a sushi roll for tomorrow.

He got himself up on the walker with me holding it steady and walked himself over to the bathroom to potty.  Got himself back to the bed but flopped into it rather ungracefully.  Using his left hand intentionally for most everything and it's still shaky and sometimes misses the cup to pick it up.  slightly off but corrects to get it to his mouth.

We also talked about starting his chanting exercises again.  That was really helping him but the downstairs neighbor here complained to Bernie and he's so self conscious about it all that he didn't fight about it...he really NEEDs to do that to combat the whole thing that is happening in his throat and swallowing.  Think that's the first major issue that happens with Parkinsons.

Jordan is in the kitchen cooking up a storm and baking cookies for him.  We are going to go together in the am in his city car share and bring buck.

Buck slid on his face down the last quarter of the stairs today screwing around on our way out this afternoon.  Just about gave me a heart attack.  Doesn't appear worse for wear and the body harness is a huge success.
